This week Maurer Architecture took a trip to the NC Main Street Conference in Goldsboro. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and scenery, and were able to catch up with some old friends.
Built in 1935, the downtown Raleigh Dr. Pepper bottling plant was in operation for nearly 40 years. The building is now undergoing a full historic renovation using historic tax credits.
Join us on February 28 at the NC Museum of History for a free screening of the Rosenwald documentary. The film tells an uplifting story about the creation of thousands of schools for African-American children in the early 1900's.
The popular downtown wedding venue is gaining some much-needed square footage this year! The new space is taking the place of an existing party tent and will provide a large open area for social gatherings.

Over the winter holidays, Trophy Brewing Company opened their second location on Maywood Avenue. The new space features an expansive 20-barrel brewhouse complete with a cozy taproom and outdoor gathering space.
The renovation of this former drugstore on Center Street is almost complete. The new space will include a large seating area for Ed's Southern Food & Spirits on the first floor, and two loft apartments upstairs.
Spectraforce Technologies will soon have a new home on Peace Street. Construction is officially underway!
The renovation will transform a formerly dark storefront into an open and flexible two-story office space. Complete with living walls and bright work areas, the renovation will breathe new life into the 500 block of Peace Street.
The new Holly Springs office of Jeffers, Mann & Artman is almost complete! We are approaching the final weeks of the construction process. The doors of the new medical office are expected to open in late November.
We are pleased to be among the honorees of Capital Area Preservation's 2015 Anthemion Awards. Each year the awards are given in recognition of "outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence in historic preservation in Wake County."
Back in June, David and Laurie presented at the National Rosenwald Schools Conference in Durham. Their session, entitled 'Restoring your Rosenwald School: A Road Map to Success,' outlined the process for restoration from start to finish. The CBC taproom in Holly Springs celebrated their grand opening this past weekend. The taproom expansion provided some much need seating, a new bar, new access into the existing brewery, and a new glass storefront that leads out to a side patio.

Death and Taxes has been awarded a Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance in Historic Preservation and Rehabilitation. The Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance recognizes significant contributions to the character, environment and appearance of our city. Since 1983 over 200 projects have been recognized by the City of Raleigh, and we are pleased to be among the honorees of this award.
The Durham Hotel, located in the former Home Savings Bank building, began taking reservations in mid-July. The building was constructed in 1968 and its unique form is easily recognizable in the Durham landscape. While the iconic stair towers offer slivered views of downtown, the rooftop deck provides a sweeping vista with miles of scenery.
KnowledgeTree, a software company in Raleigh, has moved into the Nehi building. The former bottling company is bright and open inside, providing the perfect setting for a collaborative tech company.
The City of Goldsboro will host the NC Main Street Conference in 2016. This annual event is an opportunity for communities across the state to join together in recognition of accomplishments and opportunities for future improvement. Maurer Architecture is proud to be active with the NC Main Street organization, and we look forward to next years event.
Jeffers, Mann & Artman Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine will offer comprehensive pediatric care for children of all ages from their new Holly Springs facility. The new location will open in late 2015, and is located at 604 Avent Ferry Road.
